British soul singer Sam Smith has been on a roller-coaster ride over the last few months. Smith shot to stardom after winning the Critics Choice award at the 2014 Brit Awards, but Sam’s career began to scale the heights when he featured in a 2012 collaboration with Disclosure. Sam featured on Disclosure’s breakthrough single “Latch”, which peaked at number eleven on the UK Singles Chart. Smith later collaborated with Naughty Boy on his single “La La La” a song that earned Sam his first number one single in May 2013.

Smith has had a tough time over the past few months. Earlier this year Sam had to cut short his tour of Australia and fly to the U.S. for surgery to repair a hemorrhage on his vocal chords. Smith was forced into six weeks of total voice rest to be sure avoiding scarring on his vocal chords, something that Sam found a huge challenge. Smith made a return to the stage earlier this month and earned rave reviews for his performance at the world famous Montreux Jazz festival.

Last week Sam caused some more anxiety for his fans when he postponed a number of shows in the U.S. and Canada until October. It appears that Smith is merely being cautious and ensuring that he does not overwork his vocal chords as his recovery continues.

Whilst he was laid up Smith teased fans with an Instagram picture hinting that he may be going full circle for another tie-up with Disclosure. Sam posted a picture of himself with Disclosure’s trademark line outline on his face and the caption “Surprise! Disclosure.”

Since then Sam’s fans have been anticipating a new release in collaboration with the electronic pop duo. This morning Sam’s fans got their wish when a new single got its first radio airplay and the accompanying video was released.

MTV report that the new track is titled “Omen” and shows the newly slimline, tanned and healthy looking Sam singing in a club surrounded by couples. Capital FM report that Sam features prominently in the track which is one of several that will be released in the coming weeks to promote Disclosure’s sophomore album Caracal which is due to drop on September 25. The single “Omen” will be available to buy on August 21.

“Omen” is the second of the promotional video’s for the new Disclosure album but we will have to wait to see whether or not Sam Smith appears on any of the other tracks. Just as “Latch” launched the careers of both acts, it appears that “Omen” will launch a new phase in the careers of both Disclosure and Sam Smith.
