Bee Gees star Robin Gibb is in a coma at a London hospital. His family has gathered for a bedside vigil, fearing that the disco icon may only have a few days left to live.
According to CNN , Gibb is also suffering from pneumonia. Gibb has been battling liver and colon cancer and recently had surgery on a twisted bowel. Gibb’s brother Maurice died of a twisted bowel in 2003.
Despite Gibb’s condition, his family still has hope that the “Staying Alive” singer will be able to pull through. A family member told The Sun :
“If there is anyone you would put money on pulling through such a dire situation, it would be Robin because he is a fighter. But this is a battle he will struggle to win.”
Gibb’s representative, Doug Wright, said that Gibb may have a secondary tumor. A friend of the family told Reuters:
“Our prayers are with Robin. He has kept so positive and always believed he could beat this. Sadly, it looks like he has developed pneumonia, which is very bad in his situation.”
Robin Gibb is the last remaining member of the Bee Gees. His brother Andy died at age 30 from a heart infection.
The Bee Gees formed in the early 60s. The group shot to super stardom after the release John Travolta movie “Saturday Night Fever.” Robin Gibb and the Bee Gees were inducted into the hall of fame in 1997. The group has sold more than 200 million albums.
