By now, everyone has read about Dylann Roof, the 21-year-old who shot and killed nine African Americans during bible study at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, SC. Although it definitely didn’t take long for law enforcement to track him down, there’s reportedly a number of shocking details about his arrest that recently surfaced.
Apparently, Dylann wasn’t taken directly to a police station after being arrested during a traffic stop in Shelby, NC. It has been reported that officers with the Shelby Police Department arrested him and strapped him in a bulletproof vest. They were also sympathetic when Dylann complained of hunger. So, they took him to Burger King and bought him a free meal so he could eat when he arrived at the station. Although many have questioned whether the seemingly unbelievable claim is satirical, it has been confirmed that it is not reports NOLA .
According to the Charlotte Observer , Shelby Police Chief Jeff Ledford recently shared details about Dylann’s arrest. He actually confirmed that the officers did take him to Burger King.
“Earlier in the day, Roof had bought water and chips at a south Charlotte gas station. Now he was hungry. Police bought him food from a nearby Burger King. He was very quiet, very calm. He didn’t talk. He sat down here very quietly. He was not problematic.”
Of course, many aren’t pleased with the officers’ preferential treatment toward someone who has admitted to killing nine victims simply because he hated their skin color. This one detail about Dylann’s arrest has sparked outrage on Twitter .
Needless to say, some of the comments are quite brash, and again, many social media users have less than desirable views of police officers and feel their actions are another example of blatant racism. Some Twitter users also offered examples supporting their claims.
