Following the success of The Walking Dead , AMC announced last year that it was working on a new series closely related to its first zombie drama, titled Fear the Walking Dead . Fans should be excited to learn that the wait is almost over. The new show, created by The Walking Dead’s very own Robert Kirkman, is set to premiere this summer.

While The Walking Dead centers on the story of Rick Grimes and his struggle through this zombie-infested world, Fear will cover the period of time when Rick was in a coma. Although the two series are closely related, Kirkman has already put a stop to the notion that Fear the Walking Dead is a sequel and has revealed that the new show would explore the early days of the zombie virus.

“I will say that it will definitely progress…there will be a point where a certain episode of this show will line up with Season 2 of The Walking Dead , and a certain episode of this show will line up Season 3 of The Walking Dead ,” Kirkman revealed to Entertainment Weekly .

Despite the similarities between the shows, Fear will be set in a completely different location. The new show will focus on a group of individuals living in Los Angeles during the initial outbreak. The series will follow a single mom of two children, Madison (Kim Dickens), as she navigates through the zombie-infested world and tries her best to keep her family alive.

In an interview with with Fangoria , Robert Kirkman also revealed that Fear would be more chaotic than The Walking Dead .

“There’s probably going to be more chaos in the first season [of the companion series] and moving into the second season just because we are going to watch civilization crumble. There is a tremendous amount going on, and the story is going to move very quickly, so I anticipate Fear the Walking Dead is going to be more hectic than the first season of The Walking Dead

Fear the Walking Dead stars Cliff Curtis as Travis, Kim Dickens as Madison, Alycia Debnam-Carey as Alicia, Elizabeth Rodriguez as Liza, Rubén Blades as Daniel, Lorenzo James Henrie as Chris, Frank Dillane as Nick, and Mercedes Mason as Ofelia, plus the recent addition of Sandrine Holt as Dr. Bethany Exner.

Fear the Walking Dead is set to air in August on AMC. The next season of The Walking Dead premieres in October.
