While I waited for Bethesda’s E3 Showcase to begin, the room around was buzzing with anticipation. The social wall showed us tweets from fans and industry, people watching from their homes and those sitting in the luscious Dolby Theatre in downtoan Hollywood. Bethesda entered into the realm of press conferences, and as such were attempting to play with the big boys at E3.
Bethesda’s first ever media showcase is also the first press conference of E3 2015 week. While the press conferences aren’t officially a part of the show, E3 is usually thought to start off with these massive shows in which developers, publishers and manufacturers showcase the very best of what’s to come in the coming months and beyond.
With an opening montage of Bethesda hits both past, the E3 showcase began with an impressive demo of DOOM . First revealed last year, this was the first extensive gameplay that anyone has really seen, and the footage didn’t disappoint – at least in the action realm. While the gory, over-the-top ways of killing demons brought roars from the crowd, the BFG at the end really sealed the deal. To say Bethesda’s E3 showcase was off with a bang would be an understatement.
BattleCry the team-based multiplayer arena game from the aptly named BattleCry studios, showed a brief montage of some new gameplay and also announced their upcoming Beta. Zenimax Online Studios showed upcoming content to The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited. Dishonored 2 did make an appearance in the form of a CG trailer as well. However, the real prize was of the E3 showcase was Fallout 4.
The Inquisitr previously reported on the Fallout 4 gameplay reveal, but the new gameplay had those in attendance in a furor. The gorgeous concept art, the level of character customization – everything Todd Howard spoke at the Bethesda E3 Showcase was taken as gospel. Any why not? Todd Howard did a masterful job conveying the beauty, and inherent sadness in Fallout 4 .
Being at a press conference is different than watching it on screen, but the Bethesda E3 Showcase felt less like a media briefing and more like a celebration of Bethesda and their games. Pete Hines acknowledged as much when he said the Bethesda E3 Showcase was for the fans around the world. Bethesda rocked the evening, truly allowing one of gaming’s most storied publishers to revel in the festivities of E3, finally taking the center stage for themselves.
