Governors Ball day two may have had a lot to live up to following Friday’s hit performances from Florence + the Machine and Drake, however, a solid pop and dance roster kept Governors Ball concertgoers in high spirits despite the swampy conditions at Randall’s Island Park on Saturday.
Billboard reports that acts like Bjork, Flume, and Clean Bandit kept the party rolling following Drake’s headline-making performance Friday night, with fans cheering on group ASTR to keep the Drake-theme alive with their cover of “Hold On, We’re Going Home.”
Björk rocked the main stage in true fairy-esque fashion as she was accompanied by a full orchestra for her set while donning an insect-inspired getup, performing hits off of her latest album, Vulnicura . While Björk received rave reviews for her previous performances in NYC, fans were pleasantly surprised to see even more eye-catching visuals to assist the songstress in bringing a true dream-like set to life for her Governors Ball performance, USA Today reports.
Clean Bandit took the stage at Governors Ball earlier in the day, performing alongside Alex Newell for the band’s track, “Stronger,” before returning to accompany the group once more for their hit song, “Rather Be.”
Rustie took the stage around 2 p.m., Billboard confirms, offering up an eclectic set of instrumental dubstep while featuring both new and old hits from his 2011 album, Glass Swords , and 2014 album, Green Language .
Kiesza followed Rustie’s Governors Ball set, offering up high energy tracks “Take Ü There” and “Hideaway” complete with a full team of dancers.
Perhaps the most memorable part of the night came from Deadmau5, whose Governors Ball set turned ugly quick when the DJ began having technical difficulties in regards to sound and lighting.
Billboard reports that fans began chanting , “Fix that s***,” before the DJ removed his trademark mouse head helmet to yell at the tech crew.
USA Today adds that Deadmau5’s giant lighting setup began flickering on and off for the first 15 minutes of his set, which were quickly met with boos from the Governors Ball crowd.
However, the DJ managed to get the set back up and running just in time to interfere with Ryan Adams ‘ set, who was swift to let the Governors Ball concertgoers know his feelings about Deadmau5’s loud music.
“Try to make this song on your f***ing iPhone! This song is not going to match the robot music over there…It’s like we’re living in a f***ing Terminator nightmare!”
Adams later apologized to the crowd for the Terminator slam, insisting that he’s a fan of the films before continuing his set with, “Oh My Sweet Carolina.”
Sunday’s Governors Ball lineup includes highly-anticipated acts Lana Del Rey, Tame Impala, and The Black Keys.
