Six-time Pro Bowler Donovan McNabb is looking less like an active NFL QB and more like a future ESPN analyst every day.
Following a controversial Thursday appearance on ESPN’s First Take (during which he criticized Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan ), McNabb once again joined the sports news network to give his thoughts on recent New York Jets acquisition Tim Tebow.
During his latest rant, McNabb, currently a free agent after being released by the Minesota Vikings in December, suggested that Tebow tone it down on Twitter and spend more of his time preparing for the 2012 NFL season:
“Every time that we look up there’s something. He’s reaching out to fans, telling them ‘I love you, I’m working hard,’ McNabb said.
“As an NFL player, and as a veteran in this game, no one cares what you’re doing during the offseason,” McNabb continued. “They only care about what you do on the football field. This is why a lot of people in the Denver Broncos locker room had an issue `with Tebow. It’s not how you carry yourself, it is the things you say.”
McNabb got even testier when commentator Skip Bayless said Tebow was “the most unfairly, over-criticized quarterback” in league history.
“Negative — I am, I am,” McNabb responded. “Nobody has been criticized as much as I have.”
FoxSports writes that the 35-year-old free agent was clearly pointing to his 11 years in Philadelphia, where the fans and media grew frustrated with his efforts on the field after the 2005 Super Bowl loss to New England.
In the video below Donovan McNabb joins ESPN analysts Michael Smith and Skip Bayless to discuss Tim Tebow:
Do you agree with Donovan McNabb that Tim Tebow should focus more on his football skills and less on his fans? Who faces more criticism as a NFL athlete, Tebow or McNabb?
