Now that the Point Break trailer has been officially released online, quite a few fans and critics have shared their reactions via social media.
Some fans are excited to see the adventures of Johnny Utah and Bodhi back on the big-screen in the Ericson Core-directed remake of the 1991 original film starring Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves.
However, many of the responses on Twitter to the new Point Break trailer make it apparently clear that not everyone shares that excitement.
On the contrary, there seems to be numerous people mocking and slamming the Point Break reboot for three main reasons.
“THERE’S NO NEED FOR A REMAKE”
Many fans and critics believe that there is really not a need to remake the 24-year-old film.
POINT BREAK remake just means Hollywood is a creatively bankrupt dumpster (but there’s 4 Transformers movies so you should know this by now)

Even though the original film was first released into theaters nearly 24 years ago, it is still praised by fans as a cult classic. The trend of movies in recent years seems to be leaning more towards reboots and remakes instead of new and original ideas & concepts. That same trend could very well hinder the overall excitement and buzz over this particular remake.
“THERE’S ALREADY BEEN A REMAKE – FAST AND FURIOUS ”
An interesting trend of comments points to the idea that there has already been a remake of the original film – Fast and Furious .
I recommend everyone just watch the original Point Break instead of this Red Bull Fast Furious… whatever this is. http://t.co/spfqPDlHAR

There was already a successful Point Break remake—The Fast and the Furious. Nobody asked for this: https://t.co/ZbG4XQlM8W via @TyRoot

Perhaps the fact that Ericson Cole, the director of the Point Break remake, was also the cinematographer for The Fast and the Furious doesn’t really help to separate his new movie from the 2011 film.
The guy who directed the Point Break remake was the DP on the original Fast and the Furious, which was already a remake of Point Break.

When you take a moment to think about it, Point Break and The Fast and the Furious do share a lot of similarities.

A young law enforcement official is assigned to take down a major criminal that shares a lot of the same interests as him. However, the lines become blurred, loyalty is tested and the law enforcement official finds himself getting a little too close to the dark side. Replace Vin Diesel with Patrick Swayze and Paul Walker with Keanu Reeves and the two movies are almost perfect reflections.

The fact that the first Fast and Furious movie was released nearly 10 years after the original Point Break was essentially perfect timing. It provided Point Break fans with the same concept and thrill but with a unique twist.
That unique twist was then turned into a blockbuster movie franchise with a record-breaking seventh installment ( Furious 7 ) and an eighth film on the way.
“PATRICK SWAYZE”
Many fans seem to think that the success of Point Break was built on the performances of its two leading stars – Keanu Reeves and especially Patrick Swayze.

Chances are that Keanu Reeves is not coming anywhere near this remake – not even for a cameo appearance. The late Patrick Swayze died nearly six years ago, but quite a few of his longtime fans have honored him in their comments about the reboot.
“Let’s remake Point Break,” says a Hollywood Producer. Suddenly… PATRICK SWAYZE BURSTS INTO THE ROOM AND SPINKICKS EVERYONE’S FACES OFF.

Point Break already did everything the remake could ever do, but with Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves. Checkmate. http://t.co/bpcRAWdX0T

You hear that? That’s Patrick Swayze turning over in his grave and emitting a silent scream at this travesty of a remake. #PointBreak

In addition to the three main categories of slams and mockeries, there have even been some people that found clever ways to poke fun at the Point Break remake.
I believe that like me, the people behind the remake of Point Break are dumb as hell.

At no point in the Point Break trailer does anyone dropkick a dog or order two meatball sandwiches. I think they’ve kinda missed the point.
