Bob Saget Opens Up About His Raunchy Alter Ego

Bob Saget rose to fame in nearly every home in America with his role as Most Patient Dad on Full House and as host of America’s Funniest Home Videos , so naturally he became known as a good guy; the somewhat goofy, charming father figure who would never curse in front of a lady.

But in his recent memoir, Saget shows off just how raunchy he can be, and said in a recent interview that when he would do stand-up shows while Full House was on the air, fans were shocked at what appeared to be his second life.

“I was cast in Full House , and I was very happy to play that part. But the guy wasn’t a curser; he was a father. And then, a year later, I got the video show, so that was family-oriented. And both shows were in the top 10 off and on, and I got profiled as, ‘This is what that guy does,’” Saget told the Chicago Tribue. “I’d be in some casino in Vegas and I’d just do my comedy as I had always done, and people would go, ‘Wait a minute! That’s not the guy from the thing!’”

In his memoir Dirty Daddy: The Chronicles of a Family Man Turned Filthy Comedian , Bob talks about hanging out with the likes of Robin Williams, Richard Pryor, and Eddie Murphy as a young comic and how that shaped him. And while constantly being compared to his goody-goody character on a long-gone sitcom must get old, Saget says with some levity that he can only make a comparison between Danny Tanner and Hannibal Lecter.

“I’ve compared it to Hannibal Lecter. He doesn’t eat people, you know — Anthony Hopkins doesn’t do that. But somehow when people see me, they think I should be a dad who’s a clean freak. I guess I did the job well,” he said.

Saget’s name has been in headlines recently as he and several other actors from the show prepare to reunite for Fuller House , a Netflix continuation of the original show that will focus on D.J. Tanner (Candace Cameron Bure) and her kids. One of the questions many fans had was whether the Olsen twins would be making an appearance, but according to the Hollywood Reporter , the actresses won’t be coming back due to Ashley’s reported Lyme Disease.

“Although Ashley and Mary-Kate will not be a part of Fuller House , I know how much Full House has meant to them and they are still very much considered family. It has been exciting to see how they have built their professional careers, and I support their choice to focus on their fashion brands and various business endeavors. I appreciate their support and good wishes towards Fuller House ,” said Fuller House executive produecer Robert L. Boyett.
