Valerie Harper says she’s ready to go when her time comes. According to Fox News , the 75-year-old actress is still “feeling good” after being diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in 2013. She has been going for checkups every couple of months, and is doing okay, but she knows that her days are numbered. She says that she is just taking everything one step at a time, and is not really thinking too much about “the end.”
“The brain is usually one of the later places it lodges in your body. And they don’t know how it got there because the meninges keep out bacteria, infection, and chemotherapy. It can’t get into that area because the lining is a protection,” Harper explained during a speech at a recent “Lung Force” event in New York City on Tuesday.
Although Valerie Harper is ready to go, she continues to stay positive.
“When I wake up in the morning I don’t say ‘Oh, I have cancer. I say ‘Another day. How you feeling? Good? Good.’ And when I do have little twinges of something I go ‘Oh my god, is that a headache? What is that?’ And I say wait a day or two, it might just be a headache and usually it is … so far.”
According to Mail Online , Harper’s cancer (eptomeningeal carcinomatosis) is not progressing . Her doctors are in awe about how well she is doing, and say that they’ve never seen a patient like her.
“I’m ready. I’m ready to go. Maybe that’s the secret. That I’m absolutely — I don’t want to, my God, I want to live to be 102.”
Thousands of people have been inspired by Harper’s positivity, and think that her attitude toward her prognosis could be the very reason why she has been doing so well. She does not seem scared of the disease (which is actually quite frightening for patients), and has been comfortable going with the flow.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr , Harper says that she is completely at peace . She continues to live her life, making appearances, seeing friends and family, and refusing to let her cancer take over her life.
As long as she feels well enough to go out, and do the things that she enjoys, she will do so. Do you think Valerie Harper is inspiring? Do you think her positive attitude is helping her live longer?
