On Saturday afternoon, a tragic discovery was made in Oscoda County, Michigan. An acquaintance of an unnamed family, was going to stop by their place, and when he arrived, he got the surprise of a lifetime. He had apparently stumbled upon a murder-suicide that left one woman, a man, and two young boys dead inside their home.
The incident occurred at a home on West Cherry Creek Road near Lewiston, Michigan. According to the Michigan State Police, they will be handling the investigation, and there are no other suspects aside from the deceased man at this time, so residents are being told that they have no reason to be concerned or frightened.
According to UpNorthLive , the people who were found deceased included a 24 year-old female and a 2-year boy who were discovered first by the family acquaintance. When authorities arrived on scene, they discovered the body of a 39-year-old man, and a 3-year-old little boy.
Oscoda County Sheriff’s deputies asked for assistance in handling the investigation from the Michigan State Police Alpena Post. A murder-suicide is not something that is normally seen in this particular area of the state, so it has the community a little on edge. First Lieutenant Mike Hahn with the Michigan State Police Alpena Post tells the media that the 39-year-old man had made some mention earlier on in the day about hurting the other victims.
“He made some phone calls indicating that he was going to do some harm to himself and to the other deceased people. The situation here does lend itself to that possibility.”
Hahn goes on to say that an autopsy is expected to be performed on each body, so they can get a better idea of what happened in the Greenwood township home. The landlord of the property says that he did not know the family very well, as they had only been in the rental home for about four months. He says they seemed like very happy people, that were just trying to find their place in the world.
The male victim is from downstate somewhere, but authorities are not releasing his name or where he is from at this time. The Michigan State Police report that he did make some telephone calls downstate earlier in the day and was telling people of his plans to harm himself and then the others, but it doesn’t look like anyone was taking him seriously because they failed to report it until it’s too late for everyone involved.
