Fans of The Bible TV show will remember Diogo Morgado as the actor who played Jesus in the successful History Channel miniseries. But it seems Diogo has signed a deal with the devil after his enlightening role in The Bible . Morgado has joined CW’s The Messengers , another show with religious undertones.
According to IMDb, The Messengers is an apocalyptic series about a group of people who die — and then re-awaken — as a result of an energy pulse. The Bible’s Diogo Morgado joins the cast as a character mysteriously called “The Man,” CW’s version of the devil. His character seems to be the only one who has any idea of what is going on when all the people killed by the energy pulse come back to life with superpowers. The Man then gives instructions to these new superheros in order to prevent the Apocalypse.
“A mysterious object plummets to Earth, sending out a shock wave that causes five strangers to perish, only to miraculously come back to life moments later. The group includes Vera (Shantel VanSanten), a struggling radio-astronomer searching for her missing son; Erin (Sofia Black-D’Elia), a young mother desperate to protect her seven year old daughter (guest star Madison Dellamea) from an abusive ex-husband (guest star Lane Garrison); Peter (Joel Courtney), a troubled high school student; Raul (JD Pardo), a federal agent looking to escape his dangerous and violent undercover assignment; and Joshua (Jon Fletcher), a charismatic second-generation televangelist.
“Most mysterious of all is the figure known only as The Man (Diogo Morgado), who offers Vera the one thing she wants most in life – if she will help him with one morally complicated task which puts her on a collision course with Rose (Anna Diop), a nurse who has been in a coma for seven years. Drawn together by fate and biblical prophecy, the ‘Messengers’ soon learn they have supernatural gifts that might be the only hope for preventing the impending Rapture.”
Recently Diogo was interviewed about this new take on the devil in The Messengers and ABC News reported on what he had to say.
“We’re using the Book of Revelation and the Bible as a background for sure, but it’s a wild imitation of the Bible. The five angels of the apocalypse, the four horsemen of the apocalypse, the fact that I play the devil, you know, all of that is coming out of the Bible and the Book of Revelation but as a background, you know? Ultimately it’s a show about our human condition. Our own perspective of good and evil and our own perspective of what’s the right thing to do under certain circumstances.”
You can watch Diogo Morgado in The Messengers every Friday, 9 p.m. EDT on CW.
And fans of History Channel’s The Bible , can watch A.D. The Bible Continues , NBC’s followup series every Sunday night, 8 p.m. EDT. A.D. The Bible Continues carries on with the biblical story after the crucifixion of Christ, following the struggles of Jesus’ disciples, his mother Mary, and the leaders of that era. Although fans of Diogo Morgado will be disappointed to discover the role of Jesus has been taken over by Juan Pablo di Pace in A.D. The Bible Continues .
