NFL News: Philadelphia Eagles To Sign Tim Tebow — Are They Giving Up On Drafting Marcus Mariota?

For weeks and months, Chip Kelly, the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles has been rumored to be willing to do anything to trade up and draft former Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota . Even after trading for Sam Bradford, it appeared the Eagles were just picking up bargaining chips. Now, they’ve announced that they will sign Tim Tebow, but what are they going to do with him?

As Pro Football Talk announced, the Eagles are going to sign quarterback Tim Tebow on Monday, per Jay Glazer of Fox Sports . Yes, even though Tebow works for ESPN, Glazer somehow got the news first.

Tim Tebow is also an announcer for the SEC Network, and has been out of football since 2013. After being traded to the New York Jets in March of 2012, Tebow did nothing in one season. He was cut and given a look by the New England Patriots in 2013, but never made it out of the preseason.

Back in mid-March, Tebow was brought in for a workout with the Eagles, and it was expected that nothing more would come of it. Yahoo! Sports now says that Tebow has come a long way since the workout.

Philly currently has Mark Sanchez, Sam Bradford, Matt Barkley, and G.J. Kinne on the roster. Bradford, recently acquired from the St. Louis Rams, is still rehabbing another ACL injury that trimmed his 2014 season short.

With Bradford still recovering, Tebow is going to be seen as the fourth quarterback who can participate in team activities and OTAs. How far he makes it as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles remains to be seen.

Now, the question is — Are the Eagles still going to try and seriously go after Marcus Mariota in the upcoming NFL Draft?

For now, there is no real word on that and never has been much official talk from Kelly or the Eagles on Mariota. The Tennessee Titans still own the second overall pick, but there are reportedly a number of teams looking to move up and take a chance on Mariota.

Not a whole lot may ever come from Tim Tebow signing with the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, but there has been a big buzz created. The 2015 NFL Draft is less than two weeks away, and no one quite knows where Marcus Mariota is going yet, but never underestimate the mind of Chip Kelly.
