The Rock revealed that he eats 10 pounds of food a day, part an intense diet and fitness routine has the actor eating an incredible 821 pounds of cod a year.
The actor and former wrestler, who now goes mostly by his real name, Dwayne Johnson, revealed his incredible diet in an interview with Muscle and Fitness magazine. In it, the Rock said he eats seven meals each day, with the first coming after his hour of cardio at 4 a.m.
While the Rock may be eating 10 pounds a day, his meals aren’t filled with much fats or oils. In fact each is mostly protein, carbohydrates and vegetables. Here is a sample:
Meal 1
- 10 oz cod
- 2 whole eggs
- 2 cups oatmeal
Meal 2
- 8 oz cod
- 12 oz sweet potato
- 1 cup veggies
Meal 3
- 8 oz chicken
- 2 cups white rice
- 1 cup veggies
Meal 4
- 8 oz cod
- 2 cups rice
- 1 cup veggies
- 1 tbsp fish oil
Meal 5
- 8 oz steak
- 12 oz baked potato
- spinach salad
The Rock didn’t actually add it all up, but the website FiveThirtyEight figured out that it comes to about 10 pounds each day. Writer Walt Hickey calculated that Johnson eats about 5,165 calories each day, compared to 2,734 for the average U.S. male in his 40s. In fact, The Rock eats almost half of the average daily calorie intake in cod alone.
There are some other big differences, the report found.
The average 40-something man and Johnson each eat about the same amount of fat every day. But the macronutrient ratio is way different. The average man in his forties eats about 3 grams of carbohydrates and 1 gram of protein for every gram of fat in his diet. Johnson eats more than 5 grams of carbs and 4 grams of protein for every gram of fat in his diet. Plus, it appears that Johnson spends long portions of his day exercising, which cannot be said for a typical guy in his forties.
This grand total isn’t even taking into account the Rock’s legendary “cheat days,” in which he allows himself to eat what he wants after about half a year of clean eating. One of these cheat days, which came after 150 days of training, consisted of 12 pancakes, four double dough pizzas and 21 peanut butter brownies.
But most of the calories aren’t staying in his body long. While the Rock eats 10 pounds of food a day, he burns off about the same number of calories through an intensive workout system that keeps his body in almost cartoonish proportions.
