The trailer for Fear the Walking Dead is here, and it’s trying very hard to separate itself from its parent series. However, did it do enough to prove to fans that it’s worth checking out?
Forbes thinks that “the new show feels tonally identical to its predecessor,” but the Fear the Walking Dead trailer depicts a much different world. The companion series is set in Los Angeles, so viewers won’t see so many rednecks and trees. They’ll also see more people than zombies — it takes place during the early days of the outbreak. The trailer features a voiceover of a radio host warning people that there’s a virus going around. However, the oblivious DJ thinks that it’s something that can be stopped by people getting their flu shots. You can check out the Fear the Walking Dead trailer below.
Fans of The Walking Dead might feel a bit sorry for the inhabitants of the Fear the Walking Dead world — they have no idea what’s coming their way. However, the lone zombie at the end of the trailer is definitely evidence that it’s coming. Unfortunately, the trailer doesn’t give viewers any clues about what the zombies will be called in the companion series, and it’s going to be weird if the new group of survivors chooses a new name for them.
As the Inquisitr recently reported, fans were less than impressed with the title of Fear the Walking Dead . However, it looks like the trailer has helped to drum up some excitement for the companion series.

Fear the Walking Dead centers on a teacher named Sean Cabrera (Cliff Curtis), a guidance counselor (Kim Dickens), and their troubled children (Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey). Bleeding Cool News obtained a leaked script for the Fear the Walking Dead pilot earlier this year, but the site has removed the excerpts that it previously published. However, it left up a few descriptions of the script. One of them painted a picture of a family on the verge of a major breakdown.
“Drugs, illness, self-harm, set in Los Angeles, this is not so much a nuclear family as a dirty bomb. Rick’s family were torn apart, this family are there from the beginning.”
Maybe the zombie apocalypse will bring this family closer instead of tearing them apart. Bleeding Cool also said that the undead feel like “an urban legend,” and it described a scene showing “people using iPads to watch the chaos.” One of the show’s many teen characters also sees a “friend eating a friend.” So while it’s set early on during the zombie virus outbreak, the main characters will likely catch on to what’s going on fairly quickly. However, someone from the CDC tries to tell people that the undead aren’t dead — they’re just sick.
During an interview with E! News , Kim Dickens promised that viewers will see “sexy zombies” because of the show’s L.A. location. It probably also helps that the undead are relatively “young” compared to the rotters on the parent series.
Six episodes of Fear the Walking Dead will start premiering sometime this summer. The show has already been picked up for two seasons, and Deadline reports that it’s being filmed in Vancouver . Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson penned the pilot, and Erickson is the showrunner.
