Columbia Pictures was expecting Nicolas Cage and his new movie, “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengence” to cruise to the top of the box office. But Cage’s second outing as Johnny Blaze only pulled in an estimated $22 million during President’s Day weekend, finishing third behind Denzel Washington’s “Safe House,” and Rachel McAdams’ “The Vow.”
The original “Ghost Rider” brought in $45.5 million during its President’s Day weekend opening in 2007 and went on to gross more than $115 million.
“Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance” currently has a 15% rating on Rotten Tomatoes with most critics confused about Nicolas Cage’s performance.
Film School Rejects write:
“The filmmakers understand that they have happy, productive, kooky Nicolas Cage on hand, not sullen money-hungry Cage, and they let him loose.
While the New York Daily News writes:
“Whether Cage is still paying off castles, appeasing the IRS, or rebuilding his comic book collection, it’s clear he’s decided, for now, to trade his talent for cold, hard cash.”
Have you seen “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance?” Are you a fan of Nicolas Cage?
Here’s a clip of Nicolas Cage talking about his new movie. Apparently Mr. Cage put some ancient artifacts into his leather jacket in order to get the ghostly feel of Johnny Blaze. He also visited Dracula’s castle… Maybe he really is a vampire.
