Stephen Colbert and “The Colbert Report” will not be gracing the airwaves tonight on Comedy Central. Production of the show has been suspended for at least the next two days for an unforeseen, and unknown reason.
Ticket holders first reported the news to Third-Age Magazine . An email from a Colbert fan hoping to attend tonight’s taping, read:
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have canceled our taping for the date of your ticket reservation, February 15, 2012,”
POLITICO followed up with Comedy Central Senior VP for Communications Steve Albani. Albani said:
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, the show will air repeat episodes on Wednesday, February 15 and Thursday, February 16…. (We are not) providing any additional details at this time.”
Third-Beat reports that it isn’t totally uncommon for a show like “The Colbert Report” to suspend production for personal reasons. Jon Stewart and “The Daily Show” have cancelled the show at least twice due to personal reasons. The show was cancelled once when Jon Stewart’s second child was born and again when a staff member suddenly passed away.
The reason for the sudden suspension of “The Colbert Report” hasn’t been explained but it likely has to do with a personal issue on the staff.
Do you think suspending the show for ‘personal reasons’ is unprofessional? Or is it good to see a show put personal issues ahead of business every once in a while?
