Samsung has announced the release of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. The roll out for the new devices starts on Monday in India. Although the devices will be for sale in India, buyers may only pre-order them in the U.S. and 19 other countries, including countries within the United Kingdom. Samsung expects to roll out 55 million of these smartphones by the end of the year.
According to the Tech Times , the device may also be available for demo within the U.S. as early as Monday. It will be for sale by April 10 in 20 countries, including the U.S., and will be available through the following carriers: AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular, Boost Mobile, Cricket, and MetroPCS. Demo versions have previously been seen in places like Canada.
Although the Samsung Galaxy S6 and its cousin sport similar design features, including rounded edges for a larger display, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge offers a larger 2,600mAh battery pack. The Edge also lights up when someone calls. Both devices offer color coding on calls so users know when they glance at the screen who is calling. Both the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge run on Android 5.0 Lollipop, and sport a 5.1 inch display at 2560 x 1440 pixels. This gives both devices a pixel density of 572ppi, compared to the iPhone 6’s 326ppi.
Another major change to both devices is the use of newer materials. In the past, users complained that the materials used to build the Samsung S Series devices were cheap. Falling sales forced Samsung to rethink the materials used, and now the leather back has been replaced with glass, while the sides were replaced with metal. Many of the other design features remain the same, and the devices are similar to the Samsung Note.
In a press release from Samsung , JK Shin, CEO and Head of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics, said as follows.
“With the all new Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, Samsung is offering what’s next in mobility, along with a new standard to drive the global mobile agenda. By listening to our customers, and learning from both our success and missteps, we continuously push forward new technologies and ideas. With a reimagined design, robust partner network and novel services, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge offer users the ultimate experience in smartphone options.”
According to Forbes , the Samsung Galaxy S6 has a non removable back and battery. There is no micro SD support, so users may only choose 32, 64, and 128GB capacities.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge offer a wide range of accessories , and devices may even be covered in 24K gold. Samsung expects the devices to sell well in spite of the luxury price tag of $2,500 or more.
