Online retailer Amazon could soon be making the trip to the physical world. Amazon is reportedly planning to open a brick and mortar retail store in Seattle in the next few months.
According to GoodeReader.com , the new Amazon store will focus on the companies growing list of books from Amazon Exclusives, as well as e-readers and tablets. The Seattle Amazon store will serve as a testing ground for Amazon and may be the first of many across the country.
Forbes reports that this isn’t the first time that a rumor about an Amazon store has circulated around the internet. Rumors about a physical store were started, and proven false, in 2009 and 2010.
Rob Enderle, an analyst with Enderle Group, said that a physical store could be a great idea for Amazon. The store would give people a place to check out Amazon’s eReaders and anything else that Amazon releases. The store would also remind people who don’t do a lot of online shopping that Amazon is a repeatable place to shop.
Enderle said that he expects Amazon to follow the same path as Apple. A few Amazon stores will open in affluent markets that have a lot of foot traffic.
