The Cut team is at it again. Known for their awesome time-lapse beauty trend videos, the crew has added a third instalment to their “ 100 Years of Beauty ” series – with this current focus being on beauty trends in Iran.
In just over a minute, we see Iranian-American model Sabrina Sarajy transform throughout the decades as her makeup, hair, and occasional hijab reflect the fashionable beauty standards of Iranian women from the 1910s to the 2010s.
The reflection of the beauty trends in Iran not only provides an eye-opening insight into women’s beauty ideals over the last 10 decades, but also provides a glimpse into the history of Iran. This can be seen with the hijab ban in the 1930s, the revolution of 1979 and the more recent Green Revolution.
The natural years of the 1910s.
The emergence of female independence in the 1920s.
The hijab became banned in the 1930s after the country’s name changed from Persia to Iran.
Actresses were emulated in the 1940s.
Pinning the hair back was a thing of the 1950s.
The 1960s came with lots of drama and volume.
The 1970s hair was left loose and free-flowing.
The hijab returned after the 1979 revolution.
Throughout the 1990s the hijabs got more colorful.
The Green Revolution took over in the 2000s.
And the 2010s came with more colorful hijabs and a partially covered look.
