With all the excitement surrounding the upcoming birth of Kate Middleton’s second baby, one of the hot topics of discussion is what the royal baby’s name will be when it arrives sometime in April.
Even though no one has any idea what gender the baby is, reportedly not even the Duchess herself, people are already guessing what he or she will be named.
So fond of a punt are the British that bookmakers in the UK have odds for what the baby will be named, and there is a clear favorite if she is a girl.
Even though names like Elizabeth and Diana are obvious options, and certainly up there with the favorites, this time round the name Charlotte is slated to be the favorite, with UK bookmakers William Hill offering odds of 4/1 and Paddy Power offering 5/1 odds for that name.
That girl’s name is a pretty popular one in Britain and is listed as the 17th most popular girl’s name of 2014.
The other reason why Charlotte may be a favorite is due to the fact that Kate Middleton’s sister, Pippa Middleton’s middle name is Charlotte, so the Duchess may want to honor her sister and choose that name.
The name Charlotte, which is certainly a traditional and pretty one, was last used back in the days of King George III, whose wife was called Queen Charlotte, so the name could well make a comeback.
Of course, that all depends on Kate Middleton having a baby sister for Prince George and not a baby brother, although naturally there are odds at the bookmakers for royal baby boy names too.
