Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch is facing another possible fine from the NFL.
Lynch, who has been embroiled with the NFL for the past two seasons over their mandatory interview policy, actually showed up for yesterday’s Super Bowl media day.
According to ESPN Lynch spent the majority of the designated interview time answering questions with the same generic statement of “You know why I’m here.”
Marshawn may have technically fulfilled his required interview duties this time around, but it was what he wore to the interview that will likely garner him the fine this time.
Lynch apparently was sporting a “Beast Mode” baseball cap during yesterday’s interview session. League policy states that apparel must be approved ahead of time by the NFL, and known for marching to the beat of his own drum, Marshawn apparently didn’t follow that protocol.
No stranger to penalties instituted by the league, Marshawn Lynch seemingly would benefit from a speed pay option after having been fined multiple times just this season for his refusal for interviews, as well as obscene gestures in the end zone.
Earlier this week, the NFL suffered a bit of embarrassment when it fined Lynch for an obscene gesture during the final playoff game against Green Bay but then proceeded to sell a Seahawks picture collage containing a photo with Lynch making the gesture .
Marshawn Lynch is often referred to as “Beast Mode” by Seahawks fans because of his ability to power through runs and break tackles. Lynch currently leads the NFL in rushing yards for the 2014-2015 season , at 216 yards. He will assuredly extend that lead in Sunday’s Super Bowl game against the Patriots.
Lynch has been outspoken and critical of the NFL’s policy regarding mandatory interviews, often lamenting that he just wants to play the game.
In November, the NFL imposed a $50,000 fine for Marshawn’s continued non-compliance regarding interview participation. The weeks following resulted in frustrating moments for reporters and amusing moments for the player as he simply kept repeating the same phrase over and over again such as, “Thanks for asking.”
Last year, Lynch was criticized for his refusal to visit the White House with his fellow Seahawks, as well as his absence from preseason camp as he and the team worked out contract negotiations.
Though some speculated that this may be Lynch’s last season with the team, it seems that another Super Bowl championship may be enough for the Seahawks to look the other way regarding his eccentricity and social awkwardness.
What do you think of Marshawn Lynch’s behavior? Justified defiance or arrogance? Let us know!
