Richard Sherman, of the Seattle Seahawks, is the latest person to offer up their opinion on the whole Deflategate situation with the New England Patriots. This week, he said that the situation won’t have any effect on Super Bowl XLIX, but he did say plenty about Deflategate overall and doesn’t believe the Patriots will be punished at all.
“[Deflategate is] not going to have any effect on this game. Nobody is going to get suspended [for the Super Bowl], and nothing’s going to happen.”
As the Huffington Post reported, Sherman let it be known that he really doesn’t believe anyone in the Patriots’ organization will be punished if found guilty of cheating. Yes, 11 of 12 of their footballs in the AFC Championship Game were under-inflated, but no matter what, he doesn’t see repercussions coming.
SB Nation reported that Richard Sherman’s reasoning for the lack of punishment was a bit unexpected.
“Will they be punished? Probably not. Not as long as Roger Goodell and Robert Kraft are still taking pictures at their respective homes. I think it was just at Kraft’s house last week before the AFC Championship, you know. Talk about conflict of interest.”
Throughout the press conference, Sherman remained calm and collected and answered questions politely. No matter what the topic was, he stayed focused on his answers and just spoke truthfully by what he thinks and believes.
With his words about Deflategate, some people didn’t forget that there is a huge game coming up and he’s going to be playing in. That was when comparisons to him and Patriots’ Darrelle Revis came up. He was then asked if he is the best cornerback in the NFL.
“I don’t answer preschool questions.”
Some reporters tried to push that situation and get more information from him, but he wasn’t going to bite. He urged journalists to “dig deep” for their stories because he likes that kind of thing. Sherman isn’t fond of those that want the “story to write itself.”
At no time did Sherman attempt to deflect any questions about Deflategate, his abilities, the Super Bowl, or anything. He loves talking to the media, unlike teammate Marshawn Lynch, but to each their own.
As Super Bowl XLIX is now just a week away, it’s going to be a long week for both the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots. Richard Sherman doesn’t believe that it will be that bad for the Patriots, though, and everyone will soon see if he is right.
