Over the last couple of years, more people have become aware of Monsanto, the company known for genetically modified organisms (GMOs), Agent Orange, and Roundup. Most of this awareness was found through independent studies conducted by universities on their products. Unfortunately for Monsanto, the finds have been negative. As a result, certain parties have taken action against Monsanto and their products. The Inquisitr reported on such actions including Russia completely banning both the growth and imports of GMOs into their country. In response, Monsanto has taken legal action to protect their product. One example is when they filed a lawsuit against Maui County in Hawaii when the county’s people voted to cease the growing of GMO crops.
Now, another public figure is criticizing Monsanto as Chuck Norris wrote a scathing critique Fortunately for Monsanto, he is sticking to writing because if his facts are true, Chuck should have roundhouse kicked them into submission.
According to True Activist , Chuck Norris wrote an article for World News Daily which raised a red flag over Monsanto. In it, Chuck shared his criticisms on Monsanto’s Roundup, the world’s most popular weed-killer. Here in the United States, Roundup is used on most corn, soybean, sugar beets, and canola crops. What Chuck informs his readers on is the issues with glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup. To start, he utilizes an article by Reuters , reporting that government scientists have detected significant levels of Roundup in air and water samples back in 2011 . He follows up with a study in 2013 when the Minnesota Institute of Technology (MIT) argued that glyphosate residue in food and water induces disease by disrupting normal cellular detoxifying methods.
Such information seems to be disheartening and it may seem as if the argument is one-sided. However, all of the latest news on glyphosate (found through basic search engines) tend to be bad. On January 19, 2015, CBS recently ran an article on how farm workers in Sri Lanka are suffering from kidney disease in which the latest paper blames glyphosate. Just one day ago on January 22, 2015, Reuters reported on how glyphosate is causing genetic damage in soybean workers. Even The Inquisitr reported on how glyphosate was found in PediaSure , the nutritional shake for children.
Chuck Norris speaking against Monsanto may be a sign that shows just how far the studies on GMOs and Roundup, have spread. What started out as a grassroots action has evolved into a “ March Against Monsanto ,” one that is supported by up to fifty countries.
Now that you’ve read about the details of Chuck Norris’ article criticizing Monsanto’s Roundup, what are your views? Are you against or in support of Roundup? Do you applaud Chuck for standing up for his views against the world’s most popular weed-killer or do you think he is driving an agenda despite all the reports?
