Former Fleetwood Mac guitarist and songwriter Bob Weston has died, according to a report by the Washington Post. Weston was 64.
The musician, who played with the band for two years in the 1970s until his affair with Jenny Boyd – Mick Fleetwood’s wife – was brought to light, passed away at his home in Brent Cross, north London.
A statement on Weston’s official website revealed that the guitarist’s body was discovered on the evening of January 3rd after friends raised an alarm – having not seen Bob for a couple of days – and cops broke into his apartment.
Weston was recruited into Fleetwood Mac as a replacement for troubled young guitarist Danny Kirwan in 1972, going on to record their hit albums Penguin and Mystery to Me .
During a tour of the US in late 1973, when the band were beginning to gel particularly well onstage, it emerged that Weston had been having an affair Boyd.
The band initially attempted to continue with the line-up after the affair was revealed, but eventually Fleetwood fired Weston and cancelled the group’s tour dates for the remainder of 1974.
Following his breakup with Fleetwood Mac, Weston went on to record his own solo albums and played with musicians including Long John Baldry, Murray Head, Sandy Denny, and Steve Marriott.
ContactMusic reports that Weston was due to start work on a new album with former Rolling Stones rocker Mick Taylor on Thursday.
Weston is survived by his younger brother Peter, who told Britain’s Daily Express,
“He was a lovely, gentle bloke. It’s a shock. He’d everything to live for.”
Bob’s cause of death is reportedly due to a gastrointestinal hemorrhage.
