Sam Smith threw some serious shade during an interview with V magazine . The In The Lonely Hour singer didn’t hold back when it came to talking about some truly awful pop stars. Although he doesn’t go on to name anyone in particular, Smith said that there are a few that are an acquired taste, or at least some of the pop stars he’s met.
“Even when you meet them — I won’t name names — but some of these pop stars are just awful.”
Then he compares these acts to his interviewer, the legendary singer Chaka Khan. “And they have not even had half the success that you’ve had and yet you’re so humble and kind.”

This is not the first time the singer has talked out against figures or institutions that are popular in Western culture. As the Inquisitr reported, Smith said Simon Cowell’s The X-Factor, which had a short stint in America but really succeeded in the UK, was damaging the music industry.
Smith alludes that the show isn’t concerned about real artistry , and instead just grooms parrots who will sing whatever the suits want them to sing.
“It was a very conscious decision for me not to audition. It is for people, and it isn’t for people. I feel that ‘ X Factor ‘ is perfect for singers who sing, and that’s all they want to do. They don’t care what they sing, they just love singing.”
The soulful singer continued, “You could sing on a cruise ship or release a cover album, that’s what it’s for. Because when you think about it, every week, that’s what you do. You’re singing other people’s songs. People are judging you on other people’s music.”

As for his V magazine interview, aside from Khan being “humble and kind” to Smith, the singer must of had a real connection with Chaka, as he was a fan prior to their exchange.
In an interview with Interview magazine , the singer told the publication the following.
“I used to sing Chaka Khan tunes in the car with my mum when I was eight years old. My mum and dad got me singing lessons with a local jazz singer. The thing is I’ve trained for a long time. I loved singing. It was more my hobby, my love.”
