Sarah Palin Tells PETA To Chill Over Dog Stool Controversy

Published on: January 3, 2015 at 8:37 PM

Sarah Palin has responded to tough criticism from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and other animal rights groups about the New Year’s Day Facebook image of her son standing on a dog’s back.

Mama Grizzly’s message to her detractors is to chill out.

Palin prompted this huge online controversy by sharing three Facebook photos that featured her six-year-old son, Trig, standing on top of their new dog, Jill Hadassah, to reach the kitchen sink. As the Inquisitr previously reported , Trig has Down’s syndrome, and the black Lab is apparently a service animal from the Puppy Jake Foundation. “May 2015 see every stumbling block turned into a stepping stone on the path forward,” the pictures were captioned in part.

In a statement yesterday, PETA declared that “it’s odd that anyone — let alone a mother — would find it appropriate to post such a thing, with no apparent sympathy for the dog in the photo.” The statement also referred to Palin as a “bizarrely callous woman.” A tweet purportedly from PETA even claimed that the matter was being referred to the “Cruelty Investigation Department.”

In response to the outrage, some portion of which was probably manufactured by ideological Palin haters ready to pounce, as it were, the former Alaska governor and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee assailed PETA for hypocrisy and lacking in credibility.

For example, she alluded to the fact that President Obama admitted in his autobiography that he ate dog meat while living in Indonesia. Palin also noted that PETA favorite Ellen DeGeneres previously posted a similar photo of a dog step-stool on social media.

Sarah Palin’s lengthy Facebook message to PETA, which has received about 80,000 likes so far, explained in part,

Chill. At least Trig didn’t eat the dog. Hey, by the way, remember your “Woman of the Year”, Ellen DeGeneres? Did you get all wee-wee’d up when she posted this sweet picture? [see below] Hypocritical, much? Did you go as crazy when your heroic Man-of-Your-Lifetime, Barack Obama, revealed he actually enjoyed eating dead dog meat?

…Our pets, including Trig’s best buddy Jill Hadassah, are loved, spoiled and cared for more than some people care for their fellow man whose politics may not mesh with nonsensical liberally failed ways or don’t fit your flighty standards. Jill is a precious part of our world. So is Trig.”

As The Daily Caller also noted , “In her pointed message, Palin argued that she and her family actually encompass many of the ideals animal rights activist tend to support — such as allowing animals to live in their element rather than remain cooped up in man-made environs.”

Palin’s posting also assailed the “anti-beef screamers” and elitists for having no problem sitting in leather chairs, wearing fashionable leather belts or shoes, and eating caviar.

Yesterday, Sarah Palin took to Facebook to blast both Republicans and Democrats for a double standard in their response to the Steve Scalise controversy.

Do you think Sarah Palin’s dog was in any real danger from Trig Palin?

Added : In an email to The Inquisitr about the Sarah Palin dog photos, PETA — which might be unable to distinguish between the real Palin and the Tina Fey parody character on SNL — responded as follows:

PETA simply believes that people shouldn’t step on dogs, and judging by the reaction that we’ve seen to Sarah Palin’s Instagram photo, we’re far from alone in that belief. Palin’s Facebook response shows us that she knows PETA about as well as she knows geography. Yes, we campaign against the Iditarod because when the dogs aren’t being driven–sometimes to death–most live chained or inside cages for their entire lives. And we’re a vegan organization, so we sit on pleather couches, wear stylish vegan kicks, and consider fish friends, not food. (Also, by the way, we just sent a case of vegan caviar to Vladimir Putin—and no, you can’t see his house from yours, Ms. Palin.) We have no reason to believe that the Palin companion animals aren’t ordinarily pampered, and we wish the entire family a peaceful and humane 2015.”
