Last month Lauren Pierce, the president of University of Texas College Republicans stepped down from her post after she tweeted that it might be “tempting” to shoot President Obama and now her successor Cassandra Wright is in deep water after she tweeted “My president’s black, he snorts a lot of crack.”
In response to her tweet Cassandra has not admitted that she erred on the side of ignorance but instead she made her Twitter feed private, allowing her to continue her hate speech without the prying eyes of the public.
It’s unclear at this time why so many hateful comments are being spewed from a supposed place of higher learning but the trend is scary.
For their part the GOP chapter at the University doesn’t appear to take her side or at least they are saving face by calling out the President. In responding to the attack a spokeman for the college Republicans told the campus newspaper the Daily Texan:
“The opinion of our President Wright is that of her own not in keeping with our core values, our standards, and our code of conduct.”
The organizations spokesman continues:
“UT College Republicans does respect the office of the President of the United States . We are all Americans, and even if we do not agree with certain policies, the UT College Republicans wish all our leaders well, as they are all dedicated to public service.”
It shouldn’t really surprise anyone that Wright attacked the President so viciously, she originally defended Pierce’s comments calling it a “positive statement in a way” while adding, ” I don’t really see anything wrong with it. It’s just a personal comment, not representative of any group. Just freedom of speech, you know?”
In the meantime the group as a whole hasn’t responded to why they would allow Wright to lead their group given her alignment with Pierce after the original assassination comment was made.
