Gareth Bale is set to continue his glittering career at Real Madrid after representatives of the Welsh star squashed rumors of a move to Manchester United. Bale is said to be high on Manchester United’s manager’s, Louis Van Gaal, wish list for the new year as he plans to bolster the his squad for a title challenge.
Previously, reports indicated that Manchester United were willing to break the world record transfer fee for Gareth Bale. Had the deal gone through, Bale would have been the second player, along with Diego Maradona, to break the world record transfer fee.
Louis Van Gaal was particularly coy when asked about the possibility of signing Gareth Bale in the near future. “I cannot discuss that with you,” Van Gaal told reporters. “I discuss that with my CEO and not with anyone of the media.”
According to the Daily Mail , “The response from Gareth Bale’s representatives this week when consulted by Sportsmail could not have been more emphatic. Asked if it was a fair assumption that Bale would not be going anywhere soon the message was: ‘correct, and you can leave out the word ‘soon.’”
However, according to an open poll conducted by the Spanish newspaper AS , just under 54 percent of Real Madrid supporters responded by saying they would cash in on the Welshman if Manchester United made a substantial offer.
It is not the first time Bale has been linked to move to Old Trafford. The 25-year-old was linked to a move to the Red Devils in the summer of 2013. However, Real Madrid had won the race to sign the flying winger from Tottenham Hotspurs.
So far, Gareth Bale has adapted well into the Real Madrid first team and has gone on to score in every final at the club since his arrival. While many Madrid fans prefer the guile and craft of Spanish international Isco, Bale has so far held down his position within the starting eleven scoring 11 times in 22 appearances.
However, should Bale’s form dissipate, expect Manchester United to swoop in with an exit plan for the Welshman, with Louis Van Gaal hoping to build on his fine start since taking over the reins of Old Trafford.
