Lionel Messi has been urged to join Chelsea by their midfielder, Cesc Fabregas.
During an interview with Radio Marca, via the Daily Mail , Fabregas has admitted that he “would love” it if the Argentinian soccer icon would move to London. Fabregas was transferred from Barcelona to Chelsea last summer for just under $50 million.
Messi and Fabregas are known to be close friends, and after being asked whether the forward should join him in the Premier League he made it known that he’d love for his pal to come to England.
“I wish! Why not? I’d love that to happen. I’d be all for it.”
However it sounds as if Cesc Fabregas would completely understand if Lionel Messi decided to stay at Barcelona for the rest of his career though.
“As a Barca man, I believe that Messi deserves to retire there for all that he has given the club. He is a legend that has changed Barca’s history.”
In the end though Fabregas conceded that he would jump at the opportunity to once again play alongside Lionel Messi.
“But, as his team-mate and friend, without doubt I’d love to have Leo by my side.”
Fabregas and Messi originally met at Barcelona’s infamous youth training camp, La Masia. However Fabregas left Barcelona to play for Arsenal when he was just 16-years-old, only to then be bought back by Barcelona in 2011.
Fabregas also praised how much of an impact Lionel Messi has had on Barcelona this season. Messi was recently nominated for the Ballon d’Or accolade for his on-field exploits in 2014.
Not only has he continued his preposterous goal-scoring form for both club and country during this time but he also led Argentina to the World Cup final in Brazil too. They ultimately lost this encounter 1-0 to Germany though.
In fact Fabregas also eulogised about Messi’s recent impact on the Barcelona side, while also having a sly dig at the rest of their squad.
“This season Barca are Messi and 10 others. Messi has saved his team on many occasions.”
Cesc Fabregas has had quite the impact since he moved to Chelsea from Barcelona too.
Not only has he created 12 goals for his teammates since he arrived, but he also notched a crucial goal for Jose Mourinho’s side on Monday evening as Chelsea cruised to a 2-0 victory over Stoke City. This means they are now 3 points clear of their closest rivals, Manchester City.
