The Anonymous hacker group is threatening to release a leaked Iggy Azalea sex tape if she does not apologize publicly to Azalea Banks. In response, Twitter has shut down the hacktivist group as part of their user policy.
In a related report by the Inquisitr , Iggy Azalea claims Azealia Banks is only receiving attention because of her. In response, Azealia slammed Iggy for being silent on “black issues,” and also griped about Iggy’s Grammy nominations since the “Grammys are supposed to be awards for artistic excellence. Iggy Azalea’s not excellent.”
This past Friday night, Anonymous took sides in the fight between the female rappers by demanding that Iggy Azalea apologize to Azealia Banks. Anonymous claims Iggy is “guilty of misappropriating black culture, insulting peaceful protesters, and making light of Eric Garner’s death.” If Azalea refuses to “release a statement apologizing to Azealia Banks and the protesters in NYC” within 48 hours, they would post evidence of the Iggy Azalea sex tape.
Of course, Anonymous did clarify this statement that they would not actually release the Iggy Azalea sex tape itself since they “are not in the business of porn.” Instead, they plan on releasing “various snapshots of her face to confirm” the X-rated video does exist, proving this point.
“The problem is why this tape even exists. It involves a man in a business suit, a kardashian-like attempt at fame, and a record label.”
Iggy Azalea did not respond to Anonymous’ threats, but Twitter certainly did. The social media company suspended the Anonymous Twitter accounts, apparently implementing the new harassment reporting tools they implemented recently.
The fight between the female rappers has not stopped, though, and neither have their supporters and detractors. For example, comedian Aamer Rahman writes that people like Azalea are essentially appropriating black culture without taking into consideration the larger picture.
“Blackface was all about white people acting out caricatured, fetishized depictions of black people for the entertainment of white audiences. Iggy Azalea, Kreashawn etc. are all about… well, you get the picture. Their entire careers rely on them perpetually acting, talking and behaving like college students at an ironic-not-racist-but-actually-racist ‘Ghetto Fabulous’ themed frat party. A white rapper like Iggy Azalea acts out signifiers which the white majority associates with black culture – hyper sexuality, senseless materialism, an obsession with drugs, money and alcohol – as well as adopting clothing, speech and music – as a costume that they can put on and discard at will. It’s a cheap circus act.”
What do you think about the fight between Iggy Azalea and Azealia Banks? Should the Anonymous hacker group have gotten involved in the first place?
