UPDATED 9:20 pm EST: Police in Doylestown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, are hunting for a man who tried to carjack a vehicle there, and who may match the description of shooting suspect Bradley W. Stone.
The carjacker was reportedly wearing combat fatigues and armed with a knife, but fled when his intended victim produced a gun and fired.
Philadelphia police have sent a helicopter with infrared technology to aid in the search for the suspect.
Stone was in the Marine Reserves from 2002 until 2011 and was discharged honorably . But according to court records, he was injured during a tour of duty in Iraq in 2008 and was since treated for post-traumatic stress syndrome.
UPDATE 6:30 pm EST: At a 6 pm press conference, Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetro Ferman released new details of the shootings.
The first shooting allegedly carried out by Bradley Stone took place at about 3 am Monday when Stone showed up at the home of his former sister-in-law Patricia Flick, in Souderton, Pennsylvania. Flick lived there with her husband Aaron Flick, a 14-year-old daughter and 17-year-old son. Flick apparently shot them all, killing everyone except the 17-year-old who was seriously injured.
Stone then proceeded to Lansdale, where at about 4:25 am he killed his former mother-in-law and her mother. About 10 minutes later he forced his way into the home of his ex-wife, Nicole Hill, and shot her to death as well, according to the DA’s account.
Stone too two children out of the home, believed to be the two daughters he fathered with Nicole Hill, ages five and seven. He dropped them off at a neighbor’s house traumatized by physically unharmed. Stone has not been seen since.
Police describe the Pennsylvania shooting suspect as 5’10” tall with a weight of about 195 pounds. He sometimes walks with aid of a cane or walker and may be wearing military fatigues. The shooting suspect, a resident of Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, has an auburn beard and closely cropped hair.
Authorities warn anyone in the area to call 911 if they believe they have spotted Stone, but under no circumstances should anyone approach the armed shooter.
The suburban rampage began at about 4:45 in the morning Monday, when Stone forced his way into his ex-wife’s apartment in Souderton, where he killed her, according to a report in the Allentown Morning Call newspaper.
A Philadelphia TV report said the shooting rampage began at 3:55 a.m.
Stone is said to be a Marine veteran who has been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Neighbors said that Stone had been threatening his ex-wife for years, and she had gone to the police with her fears that he would murder her.
According to the Morning Call report, Stone filed for divorce from his wife Nicole in 2009, but court dockets show filings continuing in the case ever since. Whether the divorce was ever finalized was not clear, as divorce cases are not public records in Montgomery County,Pennsylvania.
After killing his ex-wife, Stone apparently hunted down her family members. Police report a total of six victims killed in at least three separate locations, with one more person seriously wounded.
Police earlier surrounded and raided a house in Souderton where they believed Stone may have been holed up. But the suspect was not there. A teenager was found injured at that location and removed by ambulance on a stretcher.
Police now say two people were found dead there. According to a neighbor, Stone smashed through a glass door to get into his ex-wife’s house.
“They’ve been fighting for years, real bad,” said the neighbor, Michele Brewster. “He’s been tormenting her. She’s gone to the police and she has told everybody ‘he’s going to kill me.’”
