A Walt Disney World bus was involved in a fatal crash early on Monday morning, and it left one woman dead. The woman from Windermere, Florida, died after she ran her vehicle through a red light in the early morning hours, and ended up crashing into a Walt Disney World bus before hitting a third vehicle.
The Orlando Sentinel reported that the crash happened on Walt Disney World property at the intersection of Western Way and West Buena Vista Drive. That intersection is located right near Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, which is located close to Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park.
So far, the Florida Highway Patrol has said that the woman who died was 29-years-old and lived in Windermere, but they have not yet released her name.
Troopers from Florida Highway Patrol responded to the crash around 2:30 a.m. on Monday morning. About 20 passengers were on the Walt Disney World bus at the time of the crash, but none were injured. It was being driven by 58-year-old Disney cast member Fard Karim of Orlando.
The Florida Highway Patrol stated that the woman was sitting and waiting at the red light of the intersection of Western Way and Buena Vista Drive.
The Walt Disney World bus and a third vehicle, a 2015 Chevy Cruze, were approaching Western Way. At the time, they were traveling south on Buena Vista Drive.
For some reason, as the bus and Cruze entered the intersection, the woman ran through the red light and drove right in front of the bus.
At that point, the Walt Disney World bus struck the left side of her vehicle and caused her to spin out. Her vehicle finally came to a rest after hitting the right side of the Chevy Cruze.
The Cruze was being driven by 24-year-old Jeremy Marcado from Louisiana. Neither he nor his passenger, 23-year-old Sarah Haidar of Michigan, were injured.
A report from The Associated Press confirmed the news that it was indeed a Disney bus that was involved in the crash. Some comments have been made online that it was not a Disney bus or cast member.
This is a bit unlike the fatal crash that happened on Disney property last year.
That crash involved a Disney’s Magical Express bus and a passenger vehicle that was stalled on the road. As the bus came over a hill, it hit the disabled car from behind, and that resulted in the death of a woman in her 60s.
An investigation is ongoing by the Florida Highway Patrol, as it is still uncertain why the woman pulled out in front of the Walt Disney World bus which resulted in the crash.
