Rumors claim the iPhone 7 or 6S may coincide with the much anticipated launch of the Apple Watch. The Apple Watch was already announced in September to be releasing the spring of 2015, but it seems like that they thought they should join it with a launch of a new phone. Some think that Apple is hesitant about launching the iWatch alone, without a new iPhone to go with it, since consumers might hold out on the new smartwatch to buy with a new iPhone next fall.
Previously reported by the Inquisitr, the rumored iPhone 7 or 6S screen specifications may lack a display bezel and the Apple A9 CPU may be produced by Samsung. Also, according to some industry watchers, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus models might start to cannibalize the sales of the iPad. The iPhablets might be killing the iPad .
Apple’s next iteration of their phones stands to reason to be an S-model, which would follow their model cycle, but having a twice a year launch cycle would be new. This means that in the coming year both the iPhone 6S and iPhone 7 could be released. According to a source in Apple’s supply chain, there is going to be a switch to this new “condensed six month cycle,” according to International Business Times .
If Apple uses this new timetable going forward, it would match the more frequent releases from Samsung and would help in the increase of iPhone sales. If a phone launch came as a combo with an Apple iWatch it would definitely be a boost in sales.
News of the two-cycle launch schedule has not been confirmed by Apple — but would make sense with many carriers moving away from upgrades around schedule of every two years to a new yearly schedule. So the old schedule of yearly alternating between a new iteration and an S-model doesn’t mesh with a market where consumers are upgrading more frequently.
Sources close to the tech giant say that Apple is hesitant about launching the iWatch in the spring of 2015 without a new iPhone to go along with it, as it could give hesitant consumers an excuse to wait on buying both until the fall, reported Stabley Times . It could also simply be a marketing approach for this coming year to increase sales. Two distinct launches mean two distinct sales periods, which could mean significant boost in sales across a year-long period.
It wouldn’t be the first time Apple has done this. When the iPad 3 was released, it was only on the market six months before launching the iPad 4.
Alternatively, the iPhone 6s could be released this spring with the Apple Watch and stay around a year until the iPhone 7 is released the spring of 2016.
What do you think? Is every 6 months too often for a new iPhone? Would you wait to buy the Apple Watch with a new iPhone 6S or 7?
