Whitney Houston Lifetime Movie Trailer Video Released: Bobby Brown’s Cheating, Couple’s Drug Use Examined

The long-awaited and much buzzed about Whitney Houston biographical movie has come one step closer to hitting fans’ TV screens and mobile devices, with Lifetime releasing a trailer of the Whitney Houston movie on December 7.

The movie — simply titled Whitney , according to Entertainment Weekly — is a Whitney Houston biopic that features Angela Bassett in her directorial debut. From the new Lifetime movie trailer , fans can see that the screenwriters and director have not shied away from tackling the hard parts of Whitney’s life.

The Whitney movie trailer shows the Houston lookalike Yaya DaCosta – known for her America’s Next Top Model fame – singing “I Will Always Love You” and channeling Whitney and looking slim onstage. The Whitney movie also shows Houston in harsher moments, such as walking in on then husband Bobby Brown in moments when he’s apparently cheating with another woman.

The film about Houston’s life also doesn’t shy away from drug use, an element that was verified upon Whitney’s death when the coroner’s report stated that cocaine was discovered in Whitney’s system , unveiling the fact that Houston still struggled with drug use up until her death, reported the Daily Mail . In the new Whitney trailer, the star is being told that she needs to preserve her voice and stay healthy, and scenes in the movie show Houston traveling down a destructive path of bad relationships and chemical dependency.

Whitney Houston fans are no doubt hoping that Houston’s Lifetime movie gets better reviews than the Aaliyah Lifetime movie , which still pulled in 3.2 million viewers for its premiere, according to the Inquisitr .

Essence reported that Whitney Houston lovers will have to wait until 2015 to view Lifetime’s biopic of the late singer because it doesn’t premiere until January 17. With Yaya DaCosta Alafia starring as Houston, the Whitney film will cover Houston’s ascension to the heights of her fame along with her tumultuous marriage to with Bobby Brown, who is played in Whitney by Arlen Escarpeta, who also stars in Into the Storm .

Whitney is set to premiere Saturday, January 17, 2015, at 8 p.m. on Lifetime. With all the buzz surrounding this biopic and Angela Bassett’s first big directing job, the Lifetime movie is already poised to break records in viewership for the Lifetime channel.
