Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero has insisted that he plans to convince Lionel Messi to move to the Premier League.
Over the last few weeks, more and more rumors linking the Barcelona forward to a transfer away from La Liga have started to emerge. Asked whether Messi might actually move to England, Sergio Aguero admitted that it would be difficult to convince him, but he will try his best to do so.
Aguero made the comments to Mundo Deportivo , via ESPN , after he picked up the Football Supporters’ Federation Player of the Year award.
“It will be difficult to convince him, but I will try. It would be good if all the great players were in the Premier League.”
Sergio Aguero and Lionel Messi are old friends. The two soccer stars first played alongside each other as youngsters while in the youth squads for the Argentinian nation side.
Aguero and Messi are currently two of the most important members of the Argentinian national side, while the duo were also part of the squads that won the 2005 Under-20 World Cup and the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Speculation surrounding Lionel Messi’s future at Barcelona became more uncertain after he told the Argentinian magazine Ole (via ESPN ) that he didn’t know if he would finish his career in Spain.
“At the moment, I am living in the present. I am thinking about having a great year and winning the trophies we want at Barcelona — nothing else. Later, we will see. In football, things change all the time. Although I have always said I would like to stay there forever, sometimes everything does not alway go as you want.”
When he was asked to clarify these remarks, Lionel Messi only succeeded in clouding the matter even further.
“I have said it many times. If it were for me, I would stay forever. But as I said before, everything does not always come out as you want — even more in football, which changes so much and in which so many things can happen. It is complicated, even more given what is happening today at Barcelona.”
There are realistically only four clubs that could end up purchasing the star. These include Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint Germain, and Chelsea. Out of these three, City, Munich, and Chelsea each have players and coaches that Messi has previously worked with closely in the shape of Aguero, Pep Guardiola, and Cesc Fabregas, respectively.
If Lionel Messi did sensationally decide to leave Barcelona, then it would be their job to try and convince him that their club would be most suited to his talents.
