Angel Di Maria could be in line for a sensational transfer away from Manchester United, even though he only signed for the English side in August.
The Argentinian has been hugely impressive since he arrived at Old Trafford, but there were always rumors that he wanted to sign for Paris Saint Germain instead.
Di Maria hasn’t been shy in admitting his admiration for the Ligue 1 champions, and now speculation has increased that the French side might return with a bid for the player in the next few months.
There is one slight problem for Paris Saint Germain though. They are currently being scrutinized by Financial Fair Play and UEFA have even imposed sanctions on their transfers.
Manchester United are believed to have pipped Paris Saint Germain to Di Maria’s signature because they were willing to spend the $100 million that Real Madrid wanted. Paris Saint Germain only wanted to go as high as $85 million.
However they are now willing to increase their price for Di Maria according to the Express, via Bleacher Report.
Meanwhile, the Daily Star have only added to this speculation by suggesting that PSG’s manager, Laurent Blanc, is willing to offer Ezequiel Lavezzi to Manchester United in exchange for Di Maria.
Despite these reports, Manchester United are highly unlikely to entertain the departure of Di Maria so soon after he has arrived at Old Trafford.
The Argentinian put in some superb performances in the opening games of the season, and while his form has slightly dovetailed over the last few matches, he is still clearly an integral cog in Louis Van Gaal’s Manchester United side.
However, if Manchester United doesn’t qualify for the Champions League next season, then Di Maria might force their hand by insisting that he wants to join a team that can compete for the European Cup, an honor he won with Real Madrid last season. United are currently on track to finish in the top four in the Premier League at the moment though.
Over the last few days Di Maria has been talking about how much he is enjoying playing for Manchester United and he has even insisted that Wayne Rooney is as good as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Rooney is top level,” Di Maria told the Daily Mail, via Eurosport . “The other day I was talking to my friend and I said, ‘Rooney and me understand each other, just like Messi and me in Argentina squad, or Cristiano at Real Madrid.’”
