Quentin Tarantino has become an icon in the film industry, cementing his spot among the greatest of directors. His films have reached cult status in a short amount of time and he has seen viewed the industry from the pinnacle of success. Despite his explosion of creative genius, Tarantino revealed that his 10th movie will be his last planned project, yet his focus is currently on his eighth film, The Hateful Eight

During a Q&A, Quentin Tarantino revealed that he plans to leave on a note if success, rather than fade into obscurity under a film disaster.

“I like the idea of leaving them wanting a bit more. I do think directing is a young man’s game, and I like the idea of an umbilical cord connection from my first to my last movie. I’m not trying to ridicule anyone who thinks differently, but I want to go out while I’m still hard.”

Quentin Tarantino has sacrificed blood, sweat and tears for his upcoming film, The Hateful Eight , even finding an intimate home for the movie. If the movie is as epic and fantastic as he claims it to be, it might just be the perfect movie to set him up for his final goodbye. Although Tarantino says number 10 will be his last, he will not promise that an unplanned film is out of the question.

“If, later on, I come across a good movie, I won’t not do it just because I said I wouldn’t. But 10 and done, leaving them wanting more — that sounds right.”

Kurt Russel chimed in about Quentin Tarantino’s announced retirement, shrugging it off as pure nonsense.

“You don’t actually believe that sh*t do you?”

Even Samuel L. Jackson pondered the decision, according to IGN .

“What’s Quentin going to do with himself if he’s not doing this?”

Many a director has chipped away at his or her creativity until their final pieces faded into obscurity to be forever forgotten. Quentin Tarantino’s plan to leave on a high note ensures his name will be immortalized in the lights of Hollywood. His films will forever live on as cult classics.

How do you feel about Quentin Tarantino’s decision to leave his directing throne after movie number 10? Do you think he will get the itch and return within a few years?

The Hateful Eight is scheduled to debut in 2015. Anticipation has been building since it was originally announced and will surely open to a packed house. Knowing it could be one of his last, many are anxious to see what Tarantino has in store.
