Gamers who have been spending time with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel have been treated to Handsome Jack before he went completely mental and became the central protagonist for Borderlands 2 . Since then, it has been a waiting game to have Handsome Jack as a playable character in the lunar outing above Pandora. On November 11, the wait will be over, and fans of the Borderlands universe will have Handsome Jack as a playable character for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
Polygon is reporting that the DLC which includes Handsome Jack as a playable character will be released at $9.99 for the privilege of playing as the head of the Hyperion Corporation. Upon closer examination of the DLC description, it isn’t Handsome Jack, but his doppelgänger. In truth, the playable character is Handsome Jack’s clone and will be the fifth “Doppelgänger class.”
The DLC for Handsome Jack as a playable character is only part of the announced support for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel from 2K Australia. During the PAX 2014 Panel for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel , the season pass was announced for $29.99 and included four add-on packs, which can also be purchased separately for $9.99 each. It was also revealed that the forthcoming Tales from the Borderlands will unlock content in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel , adding incentive for gamers to further invest in the expanding Cult of the Vault.
Other DLC has been rumored including the “Baroness” playable class that found buried in the PC code for the game in a report from Gamerant . If this pans out to be truth, then the final roster would be six playable characters including Handsome Jack rather than five. This would be in line with Borderlands 2 , which added the Mechromancer and Psycho classes post launch.
Handsome Jack himself has a fully upgradeable skill tree that many players of Borderlands 2 will recognize from his many echo communications and encounters. His action skill is the ability to summon up to two “digi-Jacks” to fight alongside him. They will fight until killed and then immediately respawn next to Jack, ready to jump back into the fray. The “digi-Jacks” de-spawn once the action skill timer runs out.
Other abilities tied to Handsome Jack’s arsenal of tricks are found in his three branching paths. “The Hero of the Story” will increase Jack’s combat prowess including grenade buffs. “Greater Good”, the middle path, gives jack added buffs when he is in Fight for Your Life mode and can add buffs to players in the party as well. The last skill tree, “Free Enterprise,” is centered around the guns Jack uses and the buffs applied to them which vary according to the manufacturer.
