So far, The View’s new panel has been drama free , but are things heating up between the co-hosts during commercial breaks? According to one eyewitness, Rosie O’Donnell and Whoopi Goldberg nearly came to blows in front of the studio audience after Goldberg signaled for a break to commercial.
It happened right after a very controversial Hot Topic, which is a segment that used to get co-hosts fired up. Since the season opener, O’Donnell and Goldberg have been saying that the “discussion” part of The View has changed and cat fights aren’t expected between the women. This was clear from the first episode as the ladies really championed and supported each other despite disagreements.
That said, Rosie and Whoopi finally butted heads. According to Radar Online , Goldberg cut O’Donnell off by cutting to commercial and that upset Rosie. Goldberg was told by producers, in her ear piece, which Rosie refuses to wear, to go to commercial because they were going overtime while discussing the issue of “spanking children.”
When The View went to commercial, O’Donnell, who wasn’t a happy camper, took a microphone and decided to address Goldberg about her feelings. She said that she didn’t appreciate Whoopi cutting her off and was hurt. While Goldberg told O’Donnell that this wasn’t the time or place to have this discussion, Rosie carried on and argued her point. “It makes me upset and I just don’t want to have to go through this.”
Eventually enough was enough for Whoopi, and she finally snapped and cursed at Rosie.
“F— it, I told you to leave it alone and you just don’t want to listen. If you want to go there, Rosie, I will, damn it. I’m really sick of your s—!”
Sources close to production said a hush came over the audience, and then Rosie Perez broke the silence by saying, “Oh s—, Twitter is going to be off the hook now.”
After the news broke about the heated exchange, Lauri Hogan, a rep from the show told The New York Daily News that the exchange was blown out of proportion.
“They had a misunderstanding and an exchange. They talked it out and they were back to business as usual.”
Another awkward moment happened between the ladies during Monday’s show. Rosie was making fun of Sarah Palin’s remarks about how liberals call racism whenever they want to end criticism about Obama. To that Rosie yelled, “racism” to end the segment, but apparently Whoopi didn’t find it humorous and went on a spiel.
“Oh honey, if you ever really met a racist you wouldn’t throw that word around quite as lightly. Racists don’t play — they aren’t cute, they’re not cuddly.”
While it seems like Goldberg’s comments were targeted at Sarah Palin, it was still a very awkward moment in the studio.
Will the tension between Goldberg and O’Donnell continue? Guess we’ll just have to find out.
