Leave it to one of the best heels in the WWE to draw heat from the Chicago crowd last night. To recap, Monday Night Raw began the show with the Authority. Like last time they were in CM Punk’s hometown, the chants for his name were at a premium. CM Punk’s name could be heard from the United Center, they were so loud.
Stephanie McMahon, being the heel she successfully portrays, decided to call out the fans on the man they continue to cheer.
It was expected, because the WWE isn’t stupid. They understand and hear the CM Punk chants every single show. Yes, they love their hero, but he still hasn’t returned, despite countless efforts, tweets and chants to support his addition. Oddly enough, this wasn’t the first mention of Punk from McMahon yesterday.
She appeared on WGN Morning News to promote Raw yesterday. Being in Chicago, the inevitable question came up and she answered the only way she could.
When asked if CM Punk will ever return to WWE, Stephanie said “We’ve had a lot of fun with him and who knows what the future holds.”
During the appearance, Stephanie also discussed WWE teaming up with Susan G. Komen for the third straight year, and WWE will be kicking off breast cancer awareness month tonight on Raw.
At least the WWE faithful in Chicago didn’t only ask about Punk. So, the interview was a success in the WWE’s standards. As for the Punk response, what exactly does that mean? Common sense tells the WWE Universe that it leaves the door open for a WWE return and they would be welcome to have Punk back. That’s what McMahon said on television, right?
In another quote, Stephanie McMahon was asked point-blank if he would return and she said, “Never say never.”
Talk about politically correct, but her answer was the best out there. Reason being, McMahon can’t say Punk will never be back in the company. Simply because her father, Vince McMahon, is a huge fan of CM Punk, would a return be possible. Therefore, Vince McMahon would’ve had to override that quote and then be the one to say, “Never say never.” As long as Vince is calling some of the shots, Punk would have an invitation, even though it’s not an open one.
When Vince McMahon does step down for good, maybe Triple H and Stephanie will have a change of heart, as would Punk in that case. The longer AJ Lee, Punk’s wife, continues to wrestle for WWE, that will be a driving force in his decision to return to wrestling or not. Then again, we could be speculating once again. That’s what is great about the WWE; the fans will talk about rumors and returns, but only the WWE knows the answer.
