Justin Bieber was not required to be at the first hearing in his alleged dangerous driving and assault case before a Stratford, Ontario court Monday. And he wasn’t.
Although a smattering of young fans came from far and wide to see the 20-year-old singer, they had to make do with the urbane presence of his Canadian lawyer, Brian Greenspan, who represented the singer in court.
According to Canadian journalists in court, Greenspan told the court he is waiting for more disclosure from the crowd, and at the next hearing was set for October 27.
Bieber, 20, is charged with assault and dangerous driving following an incident on August 29 in which Ontario Provincial Police allege the “Believe” singer was driving an ATV with a passenger — identified as his girlfriend Selena Gomez from photos — and collided with a minivan driven by paparazzi on a country road near Justin’s father’s home in Perth county.
Police allege Bieber had a “physical altercation” with the van’s driver.
At the time, OPP Constable Wijnands previously said there were no injuries as a result of the collision, but could not say whether there were any injuries from the alleged physical altercation, the Associated Press reported.

On September 2, TMZ reported sources from Bieber’s camp confirm there was a collision, but are denying any assault or physical altercation took place between the singer and the paparazzi.
The sources claim the paparazzi stayed in the minivan taking photos of Bieber and Gomez after the collision, and were told to leave the property by Justin.
The website adds Bieber’s camp claim the paparazzi trespassed on private land owned by Justin’s father, Jeremy, to photograph the couple riding the ATV and had pursued them all day.
CBC News previously reported Ontario Provincial Police officers went to Jeremy’s home in Perth East Tuesday, after paparazzi trespassed on his property.
In TMZ’s video segment , it was claimed Bieber and his legal team intend to fight the case in court.
Fast forward back to Monday’s hearing, Greenspan told waiting press, Bieber co-operated with the investigation and that he hoped the issue could be “quickly resolved.”
Meanwhile, Justin and Selena have just arrived in Paris – likely for Fashion Week – after spending almost a week on the island of St. Martin in the Caribbean .
Let’s hope they don’t get the same less-than-joyful reception that Kim Kardashian-West and Yeezus received.
