A teen boy cuts his throat after riding his bicycle into an extremely thin rope. The incident happened Tuesday in Romeoville, Illinois, when 13-year-old Sergio Perez was riding his bike in a downhill area and hit a tight rope, reports Opposing Views . Sergio was knocked to the ground and felt a “pull” on his neck. Sergio tells Fox 32 about his experience.
“Suddenly I felt a pull on my neck because I think I knew that there was going to be a rope on the floor, but I didn’t know it was going to be up on the fence.”
The rope was tied up by neighbors who wanted to keep kids from entering their yard since it was in a visible area easy to trespass on. The rope was difficult to spot, but was tied taut with little forgiveness when it was hit.
“I blacked out for a little and then I screamed, I was like mom, mom,” Sergio says. “I didn’t know what to do after that.”
After the boy cut his throat, his mother was scared seeing her son’s hands around his neck.
“It was really scary just seeing my son holding his neck, he could have lost his head,” Naomi Perez shares.
The neighborhood has a lot of young children, and Mrs. Perez adds that if this kind of thing happened to Sergio, it could happen to anyone else. She worries that the damage could be a lot worse to smaller children , especially if they were riding the bike faster than her son was. Sergio is a big kid and was probably more able to withstand the force from the rope, even though it severely sliced through his neck.
Neighbor Eric Ratliff lives across the street and heard Sergio scream after he hit the rope.
“By the time I got over here towards the hill, I saw him make his way up holding his neck and I saw blood coming out of his mouth and that’s when she was saying, dial 9-1-1.”
When Fox32 asked the neighbor who put the rope up for comment, they were asked to leave, according to the report. A police report has been filed against the neighbor for tying up the rope, but Will County States Attorney’s Office Spokesman Charles Pelkie reveals that no one has been charged with anything yet, or if anyone is likely to be. The investigation continues into this bizarre case.
