Call it the Steve Jobs effect, following the CEO’s death the iPhone 4S has managed to shatter pre-order sales records by claiming one million units orders across five countries. The previous record? 600,000.
Following news of the new sales record Apple shares were up 4% on Monday.
According to one analyst:
“The market was disappointed, but the customers looked past the headline to see the content of the device itself.”
The news also comes after some users complained that Apple didn’t do enough to redesign the device and add new features while Apple’s Siri voice assistant program and the devices 8MP camera with HD recording appears to have been enough to lead many customers to make the jump.
While the pre-order number is impressive it should be noted that Apple will have to sell 20 million iPhone 4S units during the quarter in order to meet market expectations.
AT&T claimed a record of their own by selling 200,000 Smartphones in just 12 hours.
Devices are set to ship in “one to two” weeks according to the AT&T Wireless website.
