ISIS: Is America Going To War?

ISIS has been a debated topic within the United States for a while now. On September 10, President Barack Obama addressed the nation about the role America intended to play in controlling the threat of ISIS.

He spoke of the group as ISIL, another name for ISIS or Islamic State, and explained the complete and undeniable brutality of the terrorist group.

“In a region that has known so much bloodshed, these terrorists are unique in their brutality. They execute captured prisoners. They kill children. They enslave, rape and force women into marriage. They threatened a religious minority with genocide. And in acts of barbarism, they took the lives of two American journalists — Jim Foley and Steven Sotloff.”

Since then, ISIS has also released video of British aid worker, David Haines , being executed.

VICE News recently released footage of a young boy threatening America through ISIS. Other videos of children pledging to die for ISIS are also circulating the Web. Though there’s little to no violence in those videos, it’s almost just as difficult to watch a little boy agree to die for ISIS as it is to watch ISIS’ more violent statements.

It has also been reported that ISIS militants have some operational ability in Juarez, Mexico. Recently, a reporter from Infowars dressed as an ISIS member and crossed the border carrying a fake severed head, in order to show just how easy it would be for ISIS to get into the country.

The point of terrorism groups like ISIS is to spread fear, fear that is meant to paralyze their victims. That is why action is so important.

President Obama spoke of his plans to “degrade and ultimately destroy” ISIS, but he didn’t outright speak about going to war. In fact, John Kerry denied that America was going to war with ISIS at all. Twenty-four hours after Kerry insisted that the action America was taking was purely a “counter-terrorism operation,” however, the White House released another statement.

Friday, White House Press Secretary, Josh Earnest stated that the war on ISIS went beyond the confines of the basic “war on terrorism” that America has heard of since the September 11 attacks.

Earnest stated that ISIS “has indicated that they’re ready to go to war against the world.” He went on to say that the United States is, in fact, at war with ISIS.

ISIS is a terrifying enemy. ISIS is brutal, violent and focused on their distorted view of morality.

ISIS has no limits, but they are still just murderers.

“Remember that all through history, there have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they seem invincible. But in the end, they always fall. Always.” – Mahatma Ghandi
