Rumors about the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC release of Grand Theft Auto V being delayed have swirled for a while, but really kicked off thanks to an article from VG247 . This rumor caused a buzz among those anticipating the release GTA V on a new platform and forced developer Rockstar Games to finally respond.
The latest GTA V delay rumors started with YouTube poster HalcyonDeathSquad who claimed that the game was shown behind doors at gamescom to retailers only and not the gaming media. He also stated that there was “plenty of chatter of a next-gen slip of GTA V at gamescom” that would push the release of the game from this fall to 2015.
Rockstar has certainly been quiet about the next-gen and PC release since first announcing the new versions of GTA V at E3 in June. Is the delay true though? One fan asked the developer directly on its support page and received the following response.
I’m also looking forward to the PC release, however this release date has not changed. Please see our support article, “ Grand Theft Auto V Release Date on PlayStation®4, Xbox One, and PC ” for the most recent information on this topic.
A delay at this point would be odd. Take-Two Interactive repeatedly stated during its Q1 2015 fiscal earning call on August 4 that GTA V was releasing to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC this fall. Here were the mentions via a transcript provided by Seeking Alpha .
Fans can look forward to Rockstar Game’s release of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC [GTA V] versions this fall.

We’re highly enthusiastic about the future of Grand Theft Auto Online, including its upcoming fall launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
…
This fall, Rockstar Games will launch the blockbuster hit Grand Theft Auto V on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, bringing across-the-board graphical and technical enhancement to the game’s already breathtaking open world experience.
Gamescom was a little more than a week after the Take-Two earnings call. It seems odd that the publisher would make multiple definitive statements that GTA V would be released this fall if there was even a hint of a delay.
Many of these delay rumors are because Rockstar Games is notoriously tight-lipped when it comes to games in development. That was how they operated prior to the release of GTA V on the PS3 and Xbox 360 and how they’ve operated post-release when it comes to new content like the Flight School Update and the possibility of zombies .
It’s important to remember that fall goes deep into the final month of the year, December 21. While releasing a game by Thanksgiving is the ideal for most developers, there’s enough hype behind GTA V on next-gen consoles and the PC that Rockstar and Take-Two can afford to take almost the entire four months it needs to meet a fall release.
What do you think? Is there a chance that GTA V will slip into 2015 or will be cruising the next-gen streets of Los Santos by Christmas? Sound off in the comments below.
