The 2015 Mustang begins production in Ford’s Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan. The 2015 Mustang becomes the first Mustang to go global as the sixth-generation Ford pony car will be exported for the first time in its 50-year history.
Every 2015 Mustang will be built at the Flat Rock plant, including the right-hand drive variations aimed for 25 export markets globally, including the United Kingdom. Although more than 9 million Mustang cars have been built over the car’s 50-year history, the 2015 is the first to have a right-hand option from the factory.
“Mustang is and will continue to be an automotive icon,” declared Joe Hinrichs, Ford president of the Americas, to Detroit News . “Expanding its availability globally affords our customers around the world the opportunity to have a true firsthand Mustang experience – one unlike any other.”
The 2015 Mustang marks several firsts for the car besides being the first Mustang to export. It’s the most-liked Ford product on Facebook and the most-liked car on the social media site. Of the $2 billion in licensed merchandise Ford sells annually, 40 percent of it has a Mustang on it, with a large portion of those being 2015 models.
At RTT News , they point out that Ford celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Mustang, officially, in April. The Mustang, including this 2015 model, has made thousands of appearances on film, television, video games and in music videos. About 3,000 employees at Flat Rock build the 2015 Mustang in two shifts. A $555 million upgrade investment over the past year, including a new, flexible body shop were added to the assembly plant to facilitate the new 2015 Mustang on a modern, multi-model assembly line.
When we here at the Inquisitr showcased the 2015 Mustang and its power options, readers gasped at the array of engines being offered by Ford. The 2015 Mustang will have a 3.7-liter V6 (300 horsepower, 270 lb-ft) as standard; a huge 5.0-liter V8 outputting a massive 435 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque; and a fuel-efficient EcoBoost engine options including a 2.3-liter with 305 horses.
The 2015 Mustang hits showrooms in the United States and Canada later this fall and will begin exporting to other countries early next year. Manufacturer’s suggested retail begins at $23,600. The Shelby GT350 version (coming early next year) will house the 5.0L V8 and output 435 horsepower at a price which begins at $32,100.
