Even though the Undertaker’s streak is gone in the WWE, Sting is now saying a potential match of Sting Vs. Undertaker does not need a story or a reason to happen. It just is, but will it ever happen? Hulk Hogan thinks time is running out and that Sting needs to hurry up and make his mark on the WWE universe.
In a related report by The Inquisitr , it’s believed that a Sting WWE match is all but confirmed officially at this point, although it’s one giant question mark on who that might be. Technically, Sting only has a WWE public relations deal but the 55-year-old believes he’s physically fit enough to step into the ring once again.
Even though Sting has never wrestled under the WWE, he is listed by the company as one of their superstars in the WWE universe. It may seem weird to see the WCW World Champion described in that manner, but since the WWE bought the WCW and all its assets, technically the WCW is a subsidiary of the business and Vince McMahon can do what he please with all the old materials. This includes transforming Sting into a WWE action figure and video games, among other things.
But if Sting steps into the WWE ring, he recognizes that it would be best to fight someone from his wrestling era:
“I think a guy from my generation… it only makes sense, not just to me but I think to wrestling fans too, to see me wrestle somebody from my own generation. I mean, somebody that I’ve never wrestled, most importantly. But secondly, from from my generation, and I think that would be first choice, even for wrestling fans, to be quite honest.”
When Sting was at Comic-Con 2014, he also discussed his business relationship with the WWE:
Of course, what every fan really wants to see is Undertaker Vs. Sting! At first, it was feared that the Undertaker’s streak being broken by Brock Lesnar might be a reason to not hold such a match, but now Sting just feels it should happen for whatever reason:
“I did have a moment of ‘aww, it’s over, I’ll never be able to get in the ring with ‘Taker’. But because he lost doesn’t mean that he’s done or leaving. You know, I can’t imagine ‘Taker leaving or being done, I just cannot imagine that. I don’t know what’s going on with him for sure but man, I think ‘Taker vs. Sting doesn’t need a streak storyline; we just need ‘Taker and Sting and that’s it.”
Unfortunately, while this sounds great in theory, in practical terms Undertaker’s health status has not been good since WrestleMania 30. He’s been suffering from chronic injuries and, although by July he was back in the gym, the man himself does not think it is a good idea to float back into the ring. At the same time, it’s claimed Undertaker isn’t completely dismissing the idea, and over the years there’s been similar stories claiming ‘Taker’s health problems would prevent a WrestleMania return… yet obviously they did not.
Still, it’s not like everyone is getting any younger. Hulk Hogan also says he had a good talk about Sting’s WWE match plans and he believes Sting should not wait too long:
“Sting and I last talked when he made his appearance at Comic-Con and they announced he was part of the WWE Universe and that his dolls were coming out. We had a long talk on the plane and I said, “Brother, you have got to wrestle. I mean, I don’t care what kind of deal you signed, I said you can still go. You’ve never made a mark in the WWE. I was begging you to come here in the ’80s and the ’90s and now you just show up out of nowhere. You’ve got to wrestle.” So, I hope it happens really soon. And I think by the time I beat on him for the three hours from Los Angeles to Dallas that I think we were on the same page and he knows that he needs to get in that ring and leave his mark in the WWE and make a huge statement. I hope it happens sooner than later.”
If Sting does only do one WWE match should it be Sting Vs. Undertaker? Or do you have another wrestler in mind for your dream match up?
