A lot of Americans are currently out of a job, and many understand the fear, frustration and powerlessness that accompany the circumstance of suddenly finding yourself looking for work in this eternally down economy.
Last month, mom of eight Kate Gosselin found out she was joining the ranks of the unemployed when TLC announced it would no longer be carrying her super-family drama Kate Plus 8 . (As you probably recall, the show was originally titled Jon & Kate Plus 8 before ex-hubby Jon Gosselin made a break for the border, leaving Kate to care for their oversized brood while he partied it up poolside in Vegas and took up with the twentysomething daughter of Kate’s plastic surgeon .)
Now, Kate has admitted she’s frantic with worry over the future of her family- and readily admits that her old career is not enough to provide for the eight tots even if she works a lot. While nurses- what Kate did before she was on TV- are fairly well-paid compared to jobs in retail or food service- the megamom says no way will the profession support the nine Gosselins:
“I’ve never quit a job in my life without having something else lined up. I don’t know what’s next… The scary reality is, 12-hour nursing shifts every day wouldn’t let me continue to provide well for eight kids essentially on my own. When you think about it that way, it gets really scary.”
Kate also admits that she was “not ready” for the reality TV stint to end, and that she did not expect the sudden cancellation, adding that “nobody did.”
