Chad Kroeger, lead singer and guitarist of Nickelback, surprised wife Avril Lavigne with a whopping 17-carat , emerald-cut diamond ring.

Lavigne took to Twitter, posting a picture of herself with Kroeger and the massive diamond ring, which is actually larger than the entire width of her finger. “I still can’t believe my 1 year anniversary gift. 17 carat emerald cut. Wow. I love my hubby,” she wrote alongside the photo .

Kroeger and Lavigne first met for strictly professional reasons — Lavigne was to help Kroeger write a few songs for an upcoming album . But the two connected and began a relationship , which at first they kept under wraps. Not even five weeks after they began dating, Kroeger proposed to Lavigne, and the wedding was held a year later. Kroeger married Lavigne in Chateau de la Napoule, a medieval castle near Cannes, on July 1, 2013. Only 110 guests attended the three-day celebration held in the South of France, but the wedding between Kroeger and Lavigne was quite an affair. The ceremony was candle-lit and Gothic-themed, with the bride wearing a black tulle Monique Lhuillier gown.

Kroeger had proposed to Lavigne with a 14-carat, pear-shaped diamond engagement ring, which means with the new 17-carat diamond addition, Lavigne now has a whopping 31-carats to wear on her fingers. On top of the immense diamonds Lavigne now sports on both hands, Kroeger also gifted Lavigne with an even bigger, 20-carat emerald ring on their actual wedding day.

Kroeger obviously believes in “bigger is better,” but he is not alone in Hollywood when it comes to extravagant engagement rings. The town and its famous residents are known for their bling. Kim Kardashian’s engagement ring from now-husband Kanye West is 20.5 carats and cost an estimated $8 million and earned her a place in the “ 20 Carat Club .” Other members of this exclusive club include Blake Lively, whose unique pink diamond came with a pride tag of around $2 million. Paris Hilton was given a 24-carat diamond engagement ring by then-fiance Paris Latsis in 2005. But Elizabeth Taylor may be the president of the club, earning her place twice over with the 33-carat Krupp diamond engagement ring given to her by husband Richard Burton in 1968, and then again with a 30-carat engagement ring given to her by husband Michael Todd.

Even though Kroeger fell 3 carats short of getting his wife into the exclusive “20 Carat Club,” a 17-carat diamond ring to mark a one-year anniversary is still pretty respectable, even by Hollywood standards.
